About Gypsy Hill Golf Course

Gypsy Hill is the City of Staunton's municipal course, a par 71 laid over the rolling hills of Gypsy Hill Park, a mile from downtown. Visit Staunton dates it to 1919. It's hilly: the tourism office says you'll get a workout if you walk it, and carts are there if you'd rather ride. Mature shade trees line it, and from the hilltops you can see the mountains.

The park came first. In the late 1800s the city bought the land to protect the springs that supplied Staunton's water, about 30 acres by 1876 and 60 more by 1890, and it's named for the Romani travelers who camped by those springs. Today the golf course shares the park with a bandstand, duck-feeding lakes, tennis courts and a walking and biking loop.

It's open year round to members and nonmembers alike, with a golf pavilion, a golf shop, cart rentals, lessons, summer clinics and a full tournament schedule. When you finish, Queen City Brewing is an easy walk from the park.
