About Fall Creek Falls Golf Course
Fall Creek Falls is the Tennessee State Parks course up on the Cumberland Plateau: par 72, 6,655 yards from the blues with a 127 slope, and 4,435 from the reds. The state describes it as carved out of densely forested woodland on rolling hills, with almost no parallel holes, so each one feels like its own clearing. On the map survey all 18 holes are tree-lined and none has water in play. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
The state hired Joe Lee for the job in 1972. Golf Tennessee's writer sums up the test well: what it lacks in water it makes up for in trees and sand, and Lee set a lot of those bunkers right in the landing areas and around the greens. Keep the ball in the fairway and you'll score; spray it and you're chipping out of the woods or blasting out of sand.
In 1998 the greens were rebuilt to Lee's original plans and the bunker drainage was redone. The course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, and wildlife sightings come with the round. The park lodge, with 85 rooms over Fall Creek Falls Lake, is close by if you want to make a trip of it; the course is about an hour from Chattanooga and Crossville.
It's one of 12 courses Yoink watches in the Crossville & the Upper Cumberland area, and the closest alternative is Bear Trace Cumberland Mountain, about 18 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
What it's like to play Fall Creek Falls Golf Course
There's real elevation change: some holes rise or fall about 64 feet from tee to green. 12 of the 18 holes bend, most of them to the left, which favors a draw, so position off the tee matters more than length.
