About Prairie Green Golf Course - Prairie Green
Prairie Green is the city's big 18, a prairie links by Dick Nugent on the southeast side of town. The city site talks about expansive fairways, prairie wetlands and well-bunkered greens, and the map survey backs up how wet it is: water comes into play on 13 holes, there are 5 forced carries, and only 3 holes are tree-lined, so it's open ground. There are about 47 bunkers, and the whole property moves only about 40 feet. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
The hole people talk about is the par-5 15th. Play your tee shot short and right to stay out of the cross bunkers; if you want to get there in two, you have to take on the bunker guarding the left side, and the approach carries a pond with hills and native grass around the green.
It made Golf Digest's Best New Affordable Courses list in 1996, and the city golf site says Golfweek ranked it the No. 2 course in South Dakota in 2024. It's one of three city-owned courses, 59 holes in all with Elmwood and Kuehn Park.
It's one of 3 courses in Sioux Falls on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Kuehn Park Golf Course, about 5 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
