Penn State Golf Courses

Willie Park Jr.'s 1922 holes survive as 6 through 14 on the White. The Blue, lengthened in 2006, hosted the 2009 Big Ten men's title.

About Penn State Golf Courses

Penn State runs two public 18s off West College Avenue, the Blue and the White, both par 72. The White is the older and shorter one at 6,344 yards: small crowned greens, nearly 40 bunkers on the front nine alone, and a 492-yard uphill finishing hole that bends a little right. Those small greens reward a creative short game.

The Blue is the bigger test. Its front nine is 3,696 yards from the New Nittany tees with 27 greenside bunkers; the back nine, built in 1994 and added to in 2006, runs 3,518 yards with 16 greenside and 11 fairway bunkers, large undulating greens, a links feel, and water on 14 and 18. The 2006 renovation added three ponds and more than 640 yards.

The history goes deep. Willie Park Jr. spent six days on campus in the fall of 1922, and his 18-hole Campus Course opened in 1924. Holes 6 through 14 of today's White are all that's left of it. Ferdinand Garbin and James Harrison designed the Blue, which opened in 1970, and Ault, Clark & Associates reworked both courses for a 1994 reopening after Penn State joined the Big Ten. The Blue hosted the 2008 Big Ten women's and 2009 Big Ten men's events and a 2012 NCAA women's regional. Arnold Palmer won the 1946 PIAA title here, and Jim Furyk won it in 1987.
