About Skytop Lodge
Skytop is the golf course at the 1928 Poconos resort of the same name, on a 5,500-acre wooded tract about 1,500 feet up. The owners hired Robert White, founder and president of the PGA, in 1926, and his fairways were laid out before the lodge itself went up. Course and hotel opened together in 1928.
The resort calls it a mountain-style track on a high plateau: rolling ground, wide tree-lined fairways and small greens. It plays 6,656 yards, and water comes in on only two holes. The map survey backs that up, with trees along 15 holes, 10 doglegs, about 51 bunkers and roughly 72 feet between the high and low points. It isn't frozen in 1928. In the 1990s Ron Prichard built new 7th and 8th holes that run south beside Leavitt's Branch, and the old 7 and 8 became the driving range. It's open to the public, and GolfPass readers put it No. 2 among public courses in Pennsylvania in the 2026 Golfers' Choice awards.
