Oak Knoll Golf Course

Southern Oregon's only municipal course, played since 1927, with Grizzly Peak and Pilot Rock in view and the Wells family cemetery beside the 4th green.

About Oak Knoll Golf Course

Oak Knoll is the City of Ashland's course, run by the parks department, and the city calls it the only municipal golf course in Southern Oregon. It's nine holes, par 36, on rolling, fairly open ground southeast of town off Highway 66, with farms and hills around it, and it's open year-round. Oregon Courses notes dual tee boxes, so you can go around twice as a different 18.

The history is odd and local. It was built in 1927 on a farm owned by the Wells family, and the Wells family cemetery still sits next to the 4th green. According to Oregon Courses, it closed soon after opening and became a sheep ranch, came back as golf in the 1930s, closed again during World War II and reopened in the 1950s. The 2022 drought cut its water and it played on temporary greens until new ones went in during the summer of 2023.

The clubhouse patio looks out at Grizzly Peak and Pilot Rock, and Salt and Fire Meat Co. now runs the kitchen. There's FootGolf, and the course is dog-friendly when no one is playing. The covered driving range has been closed since a November 6, 2025 notice while the city works out repairs.
