Toledo & Northwest Ohio Golf Courses & Tee Times
Toledo has a real claim in public golf history. Ottawa Park opened in 1899 as a nine-hole city course, laid out by S.P. Jermain, the man who built Toledo's park system. The city calls it the second-oldest public course in the country, and it hosted the first U.S. Amateur Public Links in 1922. Toledo is also home to Inverness, a private club that has held four U.S. Opens, and the LPGA has played at Highland Meadows in Sylvania since 1989. For the public golfer, the draw is the city courses and the Arthur Hills layouts: Hills grew up in Toledo, and his work shows up all over the area.

Who runs public golf in Toledo & Northwest Ohio
The City of Toledo owns three courses, run together as Toledo City Golf and managed by OGM: Ottawa Park (18 holes, par 71), Detwiler Park (an 18-hole Arthur Hills design from 1971 with a driving range) and Collins Park, a regulation nine Jermain designed in 1932. That is 45 holes in all. The city's 2026 Loyal Tee Rewards program earns a point per dollar spent at any of the three and turns points into free rounds. East of town in Oregon, Maumee Bay State Park has a par-72 Arthur Hills course laid out links-style along protected wetlands on Lake Erie. Juniors 6 to 18 can join Youth on Course through the Northern Ohio Golf Association and play participating courses for $5 or less.

Why tee times in Toledo & Northwest Ohio are hard to get
Golf in Toledo & Northwest Ohio follows the seasons: spring openers and fall weekends are the busiest stretches, and summer mornings fill before afternoons.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
When tee time cancellations happen
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Napoleon Golf Club.
