The par-70 half of the base's 36, laid out by George Cobb, a former Marine. It's the one you play without a handicap card; Gold wants 24 or better.

About Paradise Point Golf Course - Scarlet

Paradise Point is the Marine Corps' golf course at Camp Lejeune, with two 18s: the Gold, par 72, and the Scarlet, par 70. The Scarlet is the more forgiving of the two in one practical way. The Gold asks for a verified handicap of 24 or less, and everyone else plays the Scarlet.

George Cobb is the architect of record, and the base is where he started. In World War II he was a Marine engineering officer here, an avid golfer with a landscape architecture background and no course-design experience, and he was told to build a course to help rehabilitate injured GIs. He was allowed to bring in Fred Findlay to help with design, and he ran construction on that course and a later one at Lejeune. Wikipedia dates the Gold to 1945.

The practice setup is bigger than most: two ranges, one grass and one covered with 20 bays, plus three putting greens and a practice field.
