About Paradise Point Golf Course - Gold
The Gold is the longer of Paradise Point's two 18s on Camp Lejeune: par 72, next to the par-70 Scarlet. The base keeps it for the better players. You need a handicap of 24 or less, and you have to show it when you book; everyone else goes to the Scarlet.
The story starts in World War II. George Cobb was a Marine Corps engineering officer at Lejeune, an avid golfer and landscape architect, and he got the job of building a course for injured GIs to rehab on. He had never designed one, so the Marines let him bring in the architect Fred Findlay to help, and Cobb ran the construction himself. Wikipedia's list of his courses dates the Gold to 1945.
There's plenty of practice space: a grass range, a covered 20-bay range, three putting greens and a practice field. Everyone checks in at the pro shop before the round, every player needs their own clubs (rentals are available), and kids under 6 aren't allowed on the course.
