Maggie Valley Resort and Country Club

Two nines, two moods: the Valley Nine on old tobacco and cornfields from 1963, then the Mountain Nine, which climbs 800 feet up for views of the valley.

About Maggie Valley Resort and Country Club

The course is really two nines. The front, the Valley Nine, sits on flat bottomland that used to be the Moody Farm's tobacco and cornfields. The back, the Mountain Nine, was added later farther up the slope and climbs about 800 feet, with views over the valley. Warm up on the first; the second is where your legs and your yardages get tested. It's around 6,500 yards with about 30 acres of fairway, sitting at roughly 3,000 feet between the Blue Ridge and the Great Smokies.

The land has a long history of taking in guests. In the 1800s it was the homestead of Sentelle and Mary Francis Moody, who gave locals room, board and schooling in exchange for farm work, and later turned cabins into guest cottages for tourists. In the early 1960s Wilmore Bremmer put together investors to buy the front bottomland. The fairways had to be seeded by hand three times because of washouts, and the first golfers teed off in late summer 1963.

The club says the climate allows golf all year, and the resort sells Stay and Play packages with condo lodging for golf trips.
