About Oasis Golf Club - Canyons
The Canyons is the second course at Oasis, and the club rates it harder than the Palmer. It's really two nines stitched together. The back is the original Vistas 9 that Arnold Palmer built in 1995; the front is the Arroyo 9, designed by Dave Druzisky and opened in 2005, when the Canyons became a full 18. The front plays a lot like the Palmer course. The back asks for length and accuracy to narrow targets, and small planes landing at Mesquite Airport fly right over it.
It's par 71 and 6,403 yards (71.5 rating, 138 slope), short on paper. The club says what makes it harder is length and the slope of the greens, which are bigger than the Palmer's. The routing runs through desert washes, red rock cliffs and canyon walls. Oasis started as Si Redd's private course, built by Palmer and Ed Seay in 1995. It's now Mesquite's only 36-hole facility and its only semi-private club, with more than 350 members, and it hosted all but one episode of Golf Channel's Big Break Mesquite.
