About Meadowlark Hills Golf Course
The City of Kearney opened Meadowlark Hills in 1993 and still runs it, and it calls itself the only 18-hole public course in town. It sits on the bluffs above the Platte River Valley, so the view from the clubhouse is part of the draw. Par is 71 for men and 72 for women. There’s water and a fair amount of sand, and from the black tees it rates 71.3/123.
It’s Nebraska’s go-to tournament course. The NSAA boys state championship has been played here five times, the Nebraska Junior Amateur twice, and the NCAA Division II women’s regional comes in 2027. In its Golfers’ Choice 2024 list, GolfPass ranked it 13th of the top 50 public courses in the country.
The practice setup is big for a city course: a multi-station range, putting and chipping greens, and chipping greens and bunkers the staff built in 2022-23 that are free to use. It stays open all year, with winter hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It's one of 4 courses in Kearney on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Buffalo Ridge Golf Course, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
