About Polson Bay Golf Course
Polson Bay sits at the south end of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, and it's the only course with fairways right along its shore. There are 27 holes: the 18-hole Championship Course, over 7,000 yards from the back tees at par 72, and the Olde Course, the original nine, 3,200 yards from the blues at par 36. Expect some elevation change, plenty of trees, and views of the Mission Mountains from the clubhouse deck.
Golf in Polson goes back to 1930, when the Chamber of Commerce bought 40 acres west of the Polson Bridge for a course and an airport. That one didn't last. In 1936 townspeople, with help from the Works Progress Administration, bought lakeshore land east of town and started over, and the course has been open to the public since 1938. The Olde Course greens still have the kind of undulation that was normal before green speeds went up, so read them carefully.
The sheltered south end of the lake means it usually opens earlier than other courses in the area. The pro told the local paper in 2023 that peak season runs through September and the course often stays open into November, depending on the snow.
