About Fox Ridge Golf Course
Fox Ridge is a family project on the northeast side of Helena. Floyd and Cleo Larue Hoff and their son Floyd Jr. built it with help from friends: the first nine in 1991, and over the next twelve years a full regulation 18 plus a separate 18-hole par 3 course. LPGA Tour player Judi Schneider Pavon was in the threesome that opened it. It's still family owned and managed.
The regulation course is par 72 and about 6,619 yards per the Montana State Golf Association, rated 70.6 with a 130 slope from the Blues. The water you'll remember is a three-million-gallon pond, and there are mature trees and more ponds around the nearly 200 acres. Look up between shots: the Sleeping Giant, Mount Helena and the Continental Divide are in view from most of the course. The MSGA calls it a nice course for walking.
If you're newer to the game or short on time, the par 3 course is the easy way in. There's a big range, putting greens, a practice bunker and a chipping area, and the Red Fox Bar and Grill in the 10,000-square-foot clubhouse.
It's one of 7 courses Yoink watches in the Bozeman, Big Sky & Helena area, and the closest alternative is Bill Roberts Municipal Golf Course, about 8 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
