About Ruth Park Golf Course
Ruth Park is University City's municipal course, a nine-holer that started life as University Golf Course in 1931. Robert Foulis designed it; he had been an assistant at St Andrews before coming to America, and around St. Louis he also did the original Forest Park course and Normandie. There were plans once to make it 18 holes, but they never happened.
It's a par 35 of about 3,000 yards on slightly hilly, tree-lined ground. The fairways are zoysia and wide, but the bentgrass greens are small, so the approach is where you score. It's open seven days a week, sunrise to sunset, and the dress code is relaxed: sleeved shirts with or without a collar, and sneakers are fine. There's a driving range, and rental sets are $12.
It's one of 79 courses Yoink watches in the St. Louis area, and the closest alternative is Creve Coeur Golf Club, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
