About Interlochen Golf Course
Interlochen is a semi-private 18 seven miles west of Traverse City, and it's been a local favorite since 1965. Hubert Morris laid it out through mature trees, and a tributary of the Betsie River winds through the property, so keep an eye out for wildlife. It isn't long: 6,415 yards from the back tees, with a 70.5 rating and 130 slope, which tells you the trees and the creek do more of the defending than the yardage does.
The best story is in the clubhouse. The dining room was named for Walter Hagen, the 11-time major winner, who was a regular here after he retired to Traverse City (the course spells it the Hagan Room). Brad Dean, a Michigan PGA pro who spent 23 years as director of golf at Crystal Mountain, bought the course in 2016 and has been working on conditions since. The original 1964 building is now Bradley's Pub and Grille, open year-round, and two simulator bays keep people swinging through the winter.
