About Cascades Golf Course

Cascades is Jackson County's own course, built in 1929 and still owned and run by the county. The course calls itself the marquee course in a town known for golf, and it has the resume for it: Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus have both played it, and it has hosted qualifying for the U.S. Amateur, the Michigan Open and the Michigan Amateur.

It's a par 72, 37 out and 35 in, from 5,282 to 6,651 yards over four sets of tees. The landing areas are generous; the greens are where it gets you. They're big and undulating, and most have a large ridge running through them, so the approach has to find the right side. You start with back-to-back par 5s. The 1st, at 573 yards from the blues, is the longest hole on the course but plays downhill, and the 2nd is reachable in two if your drive clears the crest of the hill. The 4th, the first of four par 3s, plays over water from an elevated tee.

Seniors 55 and up get their rate all day on weekdays. The Short Course is $12 for nine. The rate card runs through the whole year, and the course is open sunrise to sunset.
