About The Links/Quarry at Bay Harbor Golf Club
Links/Quarry is the flagship 18 at Bay Harbor, two of the three Arthur Hills nines on Little Traverse Bay. The land used to be a quarry for a cement plant that was abandoned in the 1980s. After the plant came down in 1994, Boyne Resorts and Hills reshaped the ruined shoreline, and the club calls it one of the largest restoration projects in U.S. history. Boyne's president has said the Links was the most expensive nine ever built at the time.
The two halves feel like different courses. The Links runs along bluffs and windblown dunes above the lake; the third is the one people talk about, with a split-level fairway where you either work the ball off the upper shelf or take on the carry to the lower one. Then the Quarry drops you into the old shale pit, with 40-foot gorges, stone cliffs, ponds and a waterfall. The wind off Lake Michigan changes day to day, so club selection is half the fight. Look for the flags: blue burgees on the Links, red on the Quarry.
It's a par 72 of 6,845 yards from the brown tees, rated 74.3 and 73.5 with a 146 slope on each nine, and there are six sets of tees down to under 4,200 yards.
