Franconia is the older of Springfield's two city courses, opened in 1929. The city credits three architects, John Van Kleek, Wayne Stiles and Geoffrey Cornish. It's short: 6,213 yards from the longest of its three sets of tees, with a 69.7 rating and 118 slope, so it's a friendly round for most players.
It's also the busier of the two. The city's courses set a revenue record of $2.3 million in 2025, and Franconia brought in nearly $1.2 million of that. The city has put about $1 million into renovating the two courses, and in 2025 it finished redoing Franconia's clubhouse, which hadn't had a major update since the 1960s: new heating and cooling, electrical, kitchen, dining room and a new glass curtain wall. There are adaptive golf carts and a middle school golf program, too.
