About Pinehills Golf Club - Nicklaus Course
The Nicklaus Course is the second 18 at Pinehills, a daily-fee club on 300 acres of glacially carved ground between Boston and the Cape. Jack Nicklaus II designed it, and it opened in 2002, about a year after the Rees Jones course. Five sets of tees run from 5,185 to 7,243 yards, so it can be as long or as manageable as you want.
Off the tee it's generous: gently rolling fairways framed by tall pines, worked around a few wetlands. The test comes on the approach. The Boston Globe's opening review, which Nicklaus Design reprints, lists false fronts, shallow angled greens, deep bunkers, collection areas and undulating putting surfaces, so the fairway is only half the job.
