About Bangor Municipal Golf Course

The Muni is the City of Bangor's course on Webster Avenue, and it's a busy one: the head pro told the Bangor Daily News it did 32,000 rounds in 2023. It's all Geoffrey Cornish, 27 holes split between the 18-hole Championship Course (par 71, 6,345 yards) and the Kelly Nine (par 36, 3,155 yards).

The Championship Course is the friendly one, with big greens and wide fairways. The course's own advice on those greens is worth hearing: they don't break as much as you think. The Kelly Nine goes the other way, with smaller greens, more sand and narrow fairways, and Cornish meant it to be the harder test. It's named for Austin Kelly, the Muni's longtime pro.

The first nine opened on July 9, 1964, and nine more were ready on September 19 that year to make 18. In 1967 the course held its first Greater Bangor Open, a professional tournament. There's a 16-station range, two practice greens, a short-game area and Birdies, the restaurant and bar, for after the round.
