About Webb Memorial Golf Course
Webb is BREC's course off College Drive, close to downtown Baton Rouge and I-10, and it's one of the busiest in town. Large oaks line the fairways, and they frame the finish: the 18th, the longest par 4 on the course, has big oaks down both sides of the fairway. It's a par 72, and Ward's Creek, really a canal, has to be crossed twice on the back nine. Holes 3 and 8 are across College Drive, and you press a traffic-light button to get there.
The course is older than the park system that runs it. It opened in 1925 as Westdale Country Club, which started with nine holes and soon went to 18. LSU bought it in 1936, and it was the university's golf course for 20 years, until LSU built its own on campus and sold this one to BREC in 1957. The name honors Baton Rouge Mayor-President Jesse Webb Jr.
There's no full driving range, just a netted warm-up area to hit a few balls, so plan on a bucket somewhere else if you need a real session. The pro shop has clubs, clothes, drinks and snacks for the bag.
