About Mallard Golf Club

Mallard is the City of Lake Charles course, rebuilt by Jeff Blume as a Scottish links-inspired layout with no trees at all. Native areas frame the holes, the fairways are built to play fast and firm for extra roll, the landing areas are generous, and the greens sit up above you. It's par 72 at 7,181 yards from the Black tees, with Blue (6,743), White (6,317), Yellow (5,896) and Red (5,385) for everyone else. With no trees, the trouble is the native grass, not the woods. Carts run on a 90-degree rule, stay on the path at every par 3, and stop for the railroad tracks that cross the property.

The ground has a longer story. The city first built Mallard Cove Golf Course here in 1976, on the old Chennault Air Force Base, on land the federal government donated. Jim Wall, a former Robert Trent Jones associate, designed it, and in 2001 the Kevin Tucker Group reworked the greens, tees and bunkers and put in TifEagle Bermuda greens. The current course is the Blume redesign; operator Sterling Golf says it oversaw the renovation. Louisiana added it to the Audubon Golf Trail in September 2022, and a new clubhouse opened in June 2023.

Posted rates (no year on the page, read September 2026) are $29 walking on weekdays and $37 on weekends, or $42 and $52 with a GPS cart; weekends mean Friday through Sunday and holidays. Cards only, no cash or checks.
