About Emeis Golf Course
Emeis is the tough one among Davenport's city courses: 6,500 yards, par 72, on 155 acres of gently rolling former farmland at the west edge of town. Hundreds of trees were planted when it was built, and they are mature now.
It opened with a bang. C.D. Wagstaff designed it, and on August 19, 1961, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player played an exhibition to christen it. Player won, 68 to 69. Golf Digest named Emeis to its list of America's Toughest Golf Courses three years running, 1966 to 1968.
Big events have followed. It hosted the NAIA men's championship in 1962 and 1967, it's home to the Quad-City Amateur every year, and it has held qualifying for the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic. If you want to play where Arnie and Gary did, that's the pitch the city makes too.
