Sultans Run Golf Club

Once a champion Saddlebred farm; each hole is named for one of Supreme Sultan's foals. Tim Liddy's 1996 rework ends at a green backed by a waterfall.

About Sultans Run Golf Club

Sultan's Run is a parkland course on rolling hills, and it's a real ride: the map survey measures about 107 feet between the high and low points, trees along 17 of the 18 holes, water near 10, seven shots that carry it and roughly 72 bunkers. It has zoysia tees and fairways, bentgrass greens and Bermuda or fescue rough. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.

The land was home to Supreme Sultan, a stallion who sired a record number of World Champion American Saddlebreds. Holes one through seventeen are named for his champion foals, each marked with an engraved stone on the tee, and the 18th is named for Supreme Sultan himself. That closer is the one everyone talks about; a waterfall runs behind the green, the clubhouse looks out over it, and VisitIndiana called it the most dramatic signature hole in the state.

It opened as a golf course in 1992, and in 1996 Tim Liddy, a Pete Dye disciple, reworked it: new bunkering, rebuilt greens and several holes redone. Liddy calls it the best property he has worked on. The owners nearly doubled the clubhouse in 2024 and dropped "Golf Club" from the name in 2022. GolfPass members named it the No. 1 public course in Indiana and No. 4 in the U.S. in 2024, it joined BoardRoom Magazine's Distinguished Golf Destinations in 2025, and it hosted the 2023 Senior LPGA Championship.

It's one of 27 courses Yoink watches in the Southern Indiana area, and the closest alternative is Buffalo Trace Golf Course - Indiana, about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
