Donald Ross built this course in 1917, and it plays like it: deep-faced bunkers, undulating greens and a set of par 3s the resort ranks among the hardest in the game. It's a par 70, and LINKS Magazine puts it at 7,030 yards from the tips. Walter Hagen won the 1924 PGA Championship here.

Lee Schmidt and Michael Fay of the Donald Ross Society brought it back to Ross's 1917 plans in a restoration the resort dates to 2006, putting back 29 fairway bunkers. It was runner-up for Golf Digest's Best Remodel in America in 2007. LINKS calls it a joy to walk, with a few dozen steps from green to tee and long views from the hilltops.
