About Sinnissippi Golf Course
Sinnissippi is Rockford's oldest public course, opened in 1912 in Sinnissippi Park when the only other course in town was Rockford Country Club. Tom Bendelow, who also drew Medinah's No. 3, designed it, and his idea was golf that was cheap to build and easy to keep up. That's why there isn't a sand bunker or a water hazard on the property.
Don't mistake that for easy. It's a par 37 of 3,230 yards over rolling hills and under large old trees, and Golf Rockford says that in the 1980s it was the longest nine-hole course in the country. Expect uphill and sidehill lies and plenty of long approaches rather than forced carries. The Rockford Park District runs it, and it has beehives set up with the Audubon Society.
