About Valhalla Golf Club
Valhalla is the resort course in Helen, running through the Blue Ridge foothills in the shadow of the Chattahoochee National Forest. It's only 6,502 yards at its longest, but the elevation changes are the story, and the course is blunt about it: the club says a scratch player would be pleased to shoot par. The course's hole notes warn you over and over to keep the cart in gear and brake slowly into the curves, and on the signature hole you stop at the top of the hill before heading straight down. That hole is the one people remember: a tee shot of about 125 to 135 yards from a tee where the ball falls roughly 150 feet to the green, so check the wind. The 9th has you aim your drive at Mt. Yonah, with water left of the green, and you cross a road between the 17th green and 18th tee.
There's a driving range and putting green, rental clubs and club fitting, and the head pro, Mike McCall, gives private and group lessons. It's open to the public, with memberships for locals who want preferred tee times.
