About Butternut Creek Golf Course
Butternut Creek is Union County's course, owned and run by the county recreation department in downtown Blairsville. Bill Watts designed it, and it plays to a modest 6,500-plus yards, so length isn't the main issue; water is in play on 13 holes. There are four to six tees on each hole.
The views are the thing. You can see mountains from all 18 holes, and from the first tee the Ivy Log range sits behind the fairway. The greens are Penncross bentgrass and the fairways and tees Tifton 419 Bermuda. The clubhouse is the county's hilltop Community Center, a few steps from the first tee, with the pro shop and The View Grill upstairs looking out over the course.
It's one of 17 courses Yoink watches in the North Georgia Mountains area, and the closest alternative is Innsbruck Resort & Golf Club, about 10 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
