The base's closure was announced in 1988, the airport reopened for civilian use in 1995, and the County of Sacramento bought the course, built by the Air Force for military use only, and opened it to the public. Course Co Inc. runs it for the county. The National Golf Foundation gave it fourth place among Top Standard or Value Courses in its 2022 GolfSAT Awards.
