About Mount Shasta Resort Golf Course

The resort course sits at 3,500 feet on the west side of Mount Shasta, with the chalets tucked into the forest along Lake Siskiyou. Jim Summers and Sandy Tatum designed it, and it opened in the summer of 1993. It's a par 70 of 6,035 yards from three sets of tees, laid over natural alpine ground with lakes and rivers, undulating greens, and the mountain in view. The head pro's own description is fair: it's scenic without being overly long.

Because it's short, the test is the ground and the greens more than length off the tee. You can walk it or take an electric cart, and the resort says you may see a wide variety of wildlife. There's a driving range and practice area, a golf shop, and a restaurant and lounge in the clubhouse. The resort sells group stay-and-play packages for 12 or more golfers.

It's one of 18 courses Yoink watches in the Redding & Far Northern California area, and the closest alternative is McCloud Golf Club, about 10 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
