The city started planning a west-side nine in 1954 to take pressure off Griffith Park and Rancho, but money, land buys and a storm drain across the site held it up for years. Dirt from the drain ditches ended up smoothing the fairways. David W. Kent designed it, and city golf supervisor Americ Hadley dedicated it on March 27, 1962, the city’s 12th course.
