About Northwood Golf Club

Northwood is Rhinelander's city course, designed by Minneapolis architect Don Herfort and opened in May 1989. Herfort worked with the land rather than against it, so the round feels like a trip through old rock outcrops, rolling hills and thick forest. It's par 72 and 6,724 yards from the championship tees, with a 73.1 rating and a 140 slope.

The long, narrow par-5 2nd tells you early that the driver has to find the fairway. The 11th plays to an island green, and the course's own tip is simple: check the wind and hit it solid. A 2017 city document noted that Golf Digest ranked it No. 3 among America's municipal courses in 2003.

The clubhouse has a full restaurant and bar, and the summer schedule runs leagues, junior programs and social events.

It's one of 2 courses in Rhinelander on Yoink, and Scott's Pro Shop @ Rhinelander Country Club (OLD ACCOUNT) is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
