About Trappers Turn Golf Club
Trappers Turn is 27 holes, three nines you pair up into an 18: Lake, Canyon and Arbor. The club describes them as Scottish flair, traditional tree-lined holes and holes cut into the canyons, and the canyons are the reason to come. Glacial meltwater cut them through the native sandstone, and Andy North and Roger Packard routed holes through them. Each nine is a par 36. It's rolling, wooded ground with bentgrass tee to green, 82 bunkers, and water in play on 13 holes.
The number that tells you how it plays: 102 acres of rough and only 34 acres of fairway. Keep it in the short grass. Canyon No. 7, North's hole through the sandstone, has been restored to his original design.
It opened in the spring of 1991 as Trappers Canyon, built by Robert and Patricia Francis of Green Lake. It hosted the 1998 Wisconsin State Open, which Steve Stricker won, and he still holds the course record, an 8-under 64. Right after that Open they added the Arbor nine and rebuilt the first three holes, and the three nines opened in 2000. Kalahari Resorts has owned it since 2007. There's also 12 North, a 12-hole par-3 course, a one-acre putting course, and a clubhouse restaurant known for its Friday fish fry and Sunday brunch.
