About Forest Hills Golf Course

Forest Hills is the City of La Crosse's course, run by KemperSports, and golf on this ground goes back more than a century. It's a mature parkland course tucked into the bluffs, with views of the big bluffs along the Mississippi and serious elevation change, so plan on some uphill and downhill lies.

A major renovation cut two new holes out of Hixon forest and redesigned three others, and the new layout added a 19th hole: a playoff hole to settle the bets. To get from the clubhouse to the course you go under the railroad tracks through an underpass Burlington Northern built, so you never wait on a train.

Railroad construction shut the old driving range in 2014, and a new one opened in summer 2020: 270 yards deep, with 15 hitting mats and grass bays, long enough to hit every club in the bag.

It's one of 34 courses Yoink watches in the Eau Claire & La Crosse area, and the closest alternative is Walsh Golf Center, about 5 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
