About Crispin Golf Course at Oglebay Resort

Crispin is the old course in the middle of Oglebay Park, next to the par-3 course and the lighted range. At 5,670 yards it's short and quick, the easy pick for a casual round, a group outing or a new golfer. It stays busy: Crispin ran a record 25,500 rounds in 2021. The 5th crosses a ravine, and until the mid-1960s you walked it on a wooden bridge. The earthen walkway that replaced the bridge is what made carts possible here for the first time.

This is where golf at Oglebay started. Earl W. Oglebay left his Waddington Farms estate to the city of Wheeling for public recreation, and the Wheeling Park Commission has run the park since 1928. The first round on the property came after a temporary nine-hole course with sand greens was dedicated on July 4, 1930, and the permanent 18 was finished five years later. The resort's longer courses came later: the Robert Trent Jones Sr. course, which hosted the West Virginia LPGA Classic for 11 years, and the Arnold Palmer course.

It's one of 2 courses in Wheeling on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Palmer Golf Course – Speidel (at Oglebay Resort), about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
