About Suncadia Resort- Rope Rider Golf Course
Rope Rider is Suncadia's public resort course on the east slope of the Cascades, a Jacobsen Hardy par 72 that opened in 2011. It's built on the sites of three historic Roslyn coal mines, and the course plays around what the miners left: old foundations, mine portals and a 120-foot hill of coal tailings, Tipple Hill, which sits in the middle of holes 7, 8 and 9. The architects left it where it was. As Jacobsen told Top100 Golf Courses, the land should be the hero.
The name comes from the miners who balanced on the coal cars as they worked up and down the steep mine slopes. Roslyn, four miles away, was founded as a coal town in the mid-1880s. Fairways are bluegrass and the greens bent grass, with real elevation change. There are youth tees on every hole, and the layout breaks into six-hole loops, so you can play a short round. Next to the golf shop there's the Rope Rider Golf Park, three free holes with two tees each. By the map survey, 14 holes are tree-lined, 9 bend, and water shows up on only 4.
