Mt. Anthony Country Club

Dates to 1897, one of Vermont's first clubs, in Old Bennington with the Green Mountains all around; bunkers and tees reshaped by A. John Harvey.

About Mt. Anthony Country Club

Mt. Anthony has been around since 1897, which makes it one of the first wave of Vermont clubs, alongside Woodstock (1895) and Ekwanok (1898), and it calls itself Vermont's oldest public country club. It sits in historic Old Bennington on 110 acres with the Green Mountains in view, 5 miles from the New York line and about 40 miles from Albany.

Under the ownership that arrived in 2007, the course went through a major renovation led by architect A. John Harvey of the RBA Group, who reshaped the bunkers and tee complexes. The club says the changes were made to take full advantage of the mountain setting.

It's a full club with public access: a driving range open to daily players, PGA lessons and clinics, simulators for the off-season and the Grille, which is open year-round for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

It's one of 65 courses Yoink watches in the Northern New England area, and the closest alternative is The Golf Club at Equinox, about 20 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
