About Bear Ridge Golf Club

Bear Ridge sits on the outskirts of Waco, along the South and Middle Bosque Rivers, where the ground rolls. PGA Tour pro Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy designed it, and it opened in 2001. It is a big course: 7,478 yards from the back of six sets of tees, par 72, with four par 5s including the 610-yard 10th, where the approach has to carry a creek. Pick the right tee and it plays a lot friendlier.

The river holes are the ones people remember. The Bosque runs down the left side of 15, 16 and 17, and the course’s own notes call the 15th tee shot maybe the most intimidating on the property. Greens are Champion Bermuda, and the course is open year round.

The name has a story. Bear Ridge was built to anchor a new subdivision on the U.S. 84 corridor toward McGregor, and it was the home course of Baylor’s men’s and women’s teams before they moved to campus. For a stretch it went by Twin Rivers Golf Club. In November 2019 Waco businessman Tommy Tompkins bought it and brought back the original name. Today it is home to McLennan Community College’s men’s team and the Midway High School teams.
