About La Cantera Golf Club

La Cantera sits on some of the highest ground around San Antonio, where the Hill Country starts, and it plays like it: limestone outcroppings, arroyos, creeks and ravines you have to carry, native grass along many holes, and 75 white-sand bunkers. Six holes look out over the city, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the hills, and from the 11th tee you can see the downtown skyline. It's 7,001 yards and par 72 from the back, with five sets of tees.

Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed it, and it's full of their risk-and-reward choices, including four par 4s that long hitters can drive. The bunkered 7th is one, with the Six Flags rides behind it. The fairways are generous and the greens are big and rolling, the 16th's most of all. The course was last renovated in 2017.

The PGA Tour's Texas Open was held here from 1995 to 2009, and in 2003 Tommy Armour III shot 254 for 72 holes, a Tour scoring record at the time; the Grille 254 by the golf shop is named for it. The course is part of La Cantera Resort and Spa. Golfweek's Best Courses You Can Play for 2026 ranks it No. 12 in Texas.
