About Sammy Baugh Golf Course
This is the Western Texas College course, a nine-holer on campus in Snyder. It's named for Slingin' Sammy Baugh, the football Hall of Famer who starred at TCU and then for Washington from the 1930s into the 1950s, and the course says Baugh was an active member and a local celebrity here. The annual Slingin' Sammy Baugh Tournament keeps the name going.
Played as 18 from the blues it's 6,304 yards with a 128 slope; the reds play 4,602. The WTC golf teams practice here every day, and the Snyder High, Snyder Jr. High and Ira High teams practice on it two or three days a week in season. There's a large range, a chipping and bunker practice hole and a putting green. The men's association plays Monday evenings at 6 from April through September. No alcohol on the course.
It's one of 13 courses Yoink watches in the Lubbock & West Texas area, and the closest alternative is Sweetwater Country Club, about 33 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
