About Pine Lakes Country Club
Pine Lakes opened in 1927 as Ocean Forest Country Club, the first course in Myrtle Beach, and it's still known as the Granddaddy. Robert White, a St. Andrews native who was the first president of the PGA of America, designed it. It's less than half a mile from the ocean on naturally rolling ground, with the most movement on the back nine, and the 14th plays toward the Ocean Boulevard skyline.
Don't let par 70 fool you. There are only two par 5s, the par 4s are long, and water is in play on about a dozen holes. The front nine is 142 yards shorter than the back, so score early. Two new sets of tees opened in late May 2026, making six in all, from 4,025 to 6,737 yards, and the new 6,068-yard set is a good fit for a lot of mid-handicappers. There's no driving range, just two putting greens you can chip around.
Architect Craig Schreiner rebuilt it from 1937 aerial photos of White's layout, keeping 16 of the hole corridors and replacing two, and the greens and bunkers were redone again in 2021. The clubhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and houses the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame. In 1954, 87 Time-Life employees met there and sketched out the plan for Sports Illustrated. It was renamed Pine Lakes in 1946, Founders Group International took it over in 2014, and it turns 100 in 2027.
