About Myrtle Beach National King's North
King's North is the headline course at Myrtle Beach National, a 54-hole property with three Arnold Palmer layouts, and a statue of Arnie greets you on the way in. It opened in 1973 as the first of the three and was called the North Course until Palmer came back in 1996 for a full redesign, which is when it picked up its name and its reputation.
Two holes carry that reputation. The 6th, a par 5 everyone calls the Gambler, has an alternate island fairway: take it on and you shorten the hole, miss and you're reloading. The par-3 12th is an island green framed by bunkers shaped like the letters SC. Around them the course has a rugged, sandy look, with waste bunkers cut into the region's natural sandy soil.
The course just came out of a two-year renovation led by Brandon Johnson, who spent more than 17 years at Arnold Palmer Golf Design. The front nine closed June 3, 2024; the back nine closed May 26, 2025 and reopened in October 2025. The greens were restored to their original size, taking back 30,000 square feet of putting surface (about 36 percent more) and regrassed with TifEagle bermuda. Every bunker was rebuilt with Capillary Concrete liners, the SC bunkers at 12 were reworked, and mounding around the greens was cut back so you can run the ball in or fly it.
