About Greer Golf
Greer Golf started as Greer Country Club. The land was a peach orchard until October 1954, when its three owners sold it to the new club for $9,000. The course opened with nine holes in 1955 and went to 18 in 1965, when a pool and tennis courts came with it. The club built a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse in 2009, and in February 2020 the City of Greer bought it, fixed up the clubhouse, brought in new carts and opened online booking.
It's a par 72 of 6,350 yards from the blues, but the 71.4 rating and 137 slope tell you it plays harder than the number. The fairways are tree-lined and many of them tilt, and water and creeks show up across the back nine. The 13th is the longest par 3, with a green over 40 yards deep, and the 14th, the course's signature hole, is a sharp dogleg with Lake Apalache down the left.
The greens were switched from bentgrass to Diamond Zoysia in 2015, which added nearly 30% more putting surface, and the city resurfaced the fairways and tees with Tahoma 31 Bermuda in 2020 and 2021. There's a range beside the 9th and a 6,000-square-foot practice green behind the clubhouse.
