About The River Golf Club
The River Golf Club is a private club in North Augusta, on the South Carolina bank of the Savannah River straight across from downtown Augusta. Jim Fazio designed it, it opened in 1998, and a year later Golf Digest named it one of the top five new courses in the country (1999). It hosted U.S. Open qualifying in 2002 and a mini-tour championship in 1999 and 2000.
Expect water. The course is laid out around lakes and wetlands, with dramatic bunkering and Mini-Verde ultradwarf Bermuda greens, which roll quick and true when they're firm. There are five sets of tees, so it fits a range of games.
Being ten minutes from Augusta National shapes the calendar. During Masters week the club opens tee times to visiting golfers, with carts, range balls, breakfast and lunch included, and it spaces the tee sheet to keep the pace reasonable. There are also on-site cottages, with decks looking over the lake and the 18th hole, that come with preferred tee times.
