About Met Links
Met Links is what's left of Metacomet Country Club, and it's the good part. The old private club closed in 2020 and most of its course was lost, but the new owner, Marshall Properties, kept the front nine. Robert McNeil and the Northeast Golf Company restored it, starting in June 2023, and it opened to the public on June 27, 2024. It's a par 34 that runs along the shore of Watchemoket Cove.
The draw is Donald Ross. The club moved to this ground in 1919, and Ross was brought in soon after to redesign it; nearly all the greens and bunkers were rebuilt to his plans. Over the next century a lot of that was lost: hazards were grassed over, greens were rebuilt, and trees closed the holes in. McNeil's job was to bring the Ross greens, hazards and strategy back, and he added two new holes with new greens built to match.
Expect a real test around the greens rather than a pitch-and-putt nine. The map survey counts about 40 bunkers and water on three holes, with the cove in play on one of them. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data. The club was named for Metacomet, the Wampanoag leader the English called King Philip, and in its private days it hosted plenty of championships and qualifiers.
It's one of 129 courses Yoink watches in the New England area, and the closest alternative is Triggs Memorial Golf Course, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
