About LaFortune Park Golf Course
LaFortune's championship course is the one Tulsa County built its park system around. Oilman J.A. LaFortune gave $250,000 in 1957 to turn the old Tulsa County Farm into a park, work on the park and its golf course started in 1958, and it opened on October 16, 1960 as the first county park in Oklahoma. The course has water hazards, sand and bent grass greens, and the county renovated it in 2004. The course credits more recent renovations to Tulsa architect Randy Heckenkemper.
The rest of the park is built around it. LaFortune paid for a nine-hole par-3 in 1963, and that course has since become a lighted 18-hole par-3 with a new layout that reopened in October 2018. From mid-April through October the par-3 stays lit until 11 p.m. and the range until 10, so an after-work round works even in summer. A new clubhouse and restaurant opened in 2010.
