Heritage Hills Golf Course

Don Sechrest of Tulsa designed it for the junior college that became Rogers State. Water on 15 holes, hills mixed with flats, bentgrass greens.

About Heritage Hills Golf Course

Heritage Hills is Claremore’s public course, run by the Rogers County Public Facilities Authority. It opened on July 2, 1977, and the idea goes back to the 1970s, when it was conceived as part of Claremore Junior College, the school that is now Rogers State University. Tulsa architect Donald Sechrest drew the layout.

It is a solid test from the back: 6,756 yards, par 71, with a 72.7 rating and 129 slope, and the forward tees play 4,909 yards. The ground is part hilly, part flat. There is water on 15 holes, though not all of it comes into play for most players, plus 35 sand bunkers and four grass bunkers. Miss the fairway and you are dealing with deep grass, sidehill lies and trees.

Greens are Penncross bentgrass and the fairways are Bermuda. There is a range, a practice green and a short-game area, and the Claremore High School and Rogers State teams play out of here.
