Turnberry Golf Course

Arthur Hills' links-style layout on Blacklick Creek: high fescue, lakes, bentgrass wall to wall, and small raised greens that make every approach count.

About Turnberry Golf Course

Turnberry is the City of Columbus's Arthur Hills course, out on the far east side along Blacklick Creek, easy to reach from I-70. The city acquired the land in 1988 and the course opened in June 1991. It's links-style rather than parkland: high fescue, several lakes and plenty of bunkers frame bentgrass tees, fairways and greens.

The thing to know is the greens. They're small and elevated, so the second shot is where the round is won or lost. It's a par 72 of 6,775 yards from the Black tees (72.4/128), and there are five sets of tees down to a 3,812-yard Purple set. The scorecard has a chart that matches tees to your driving distance: 270 and up plays the Black, under 160 the Purple. Out of bounds lines holes 4, 5, 12, 13 and 18.

There's a 70-station range. Carts have to stay on the paths around tees and greens. Coolers aren't allowed, so drinks come from the halfway house, the beverage cart or the grille room.

It's one of 66 courses Yoink watches in the Columbus area, and the closest alternative is Blacklick Woods Metro Park, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
