Champions Golf Course

About Champions Golf Course
Champions is the City of Columbus course on Westerville Road, right next to Easton Town Center and inside the I-270 outer belt. The city calls it one of the toughest public courses in Central Ohio, and the reasons are all about the ground: rolling fairways, mature trees, doglegs that make you pick a line, undulating greens and hills throughout.
It isn't long. It's a par 70 that measures 6,536 yards from the black tees (70.8 rating, 125 slope), 6,222 from the blues and 5,886 from the whites. The orange tees play 5,014 yards at par 72, and there's a long orange set at 5,393. Length isn't the defense here; the slopes and trees are.
Before it was Champions, it was the Winding Hollow Country Club. The club was founded in 1921 and opened in 1923 with nine holes by Herbert Strong. In 1954 Robert Trent Jones designed the 18 you play today. It's one of six courses run by Columbus Recreation and Parks.
It's one of 66 courses Yoink watches in the Columbus area, and the closest alternative is Airport Golf Course, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
